Listen to the Core Messages from your Essential Self

Use this meditation while walking, driving, sitting, working on a project, or planning your day or year. Choose one key question to focus on until you're complete with it. Verbalize your key question: don't just think it.

Select a preoccupation, neglected priority, goal, intuition, or disregarded discomfort.

Examples: How can I get a girlfriend? What's my main goal in writing this? How can I protect my relationship with ___? What's the most important thing I should learn from studying ____? (e.g., Buddhism, NLP, or Gandhi).

Alternatively, create a key question about thoughts that keep coming back to you, again and again. Or choose an email or letter, affirmation, journal entry, plans, or other document.

Step 1:     Say your key question aloud, or write it in your journal.

Silently consider your existing opinion for several breaths.

If you're responding to a letter, affirmation, or document, reread it before this step of reflecting on your preexisting reactions.

Step 2:     Say, "Inner silence."

Empty your mind for four breaths. Count on your fingers to keep your mind quiet.

Stop thinking about the topic altogether.

Step 3:     Verbalize your key question again. Then silently focus on the topic without words.

If working on an affirmation, verbalize it each time you reach this step. Then focus on it silently, and let thoughts and visualizations bubble up for several breaths.

Step 4:     Say, "Articulate." Crystallize your new wisdom by verbalizing it.

If you're walking, driving, or in sitting meditation, respond aloud.

Write your feelings in a journal, or type several paragraphs in the document.

Repeat this four-step cycle at least three times. Return to reflecting on your key question by using inner silence frequently throughout the day by watching for five-minute opportunities for using inner silence.
